Lakin is in her first season with HDI after a diverse coaching career. She spent three seasons as an assistant women's basketball coach at her alma mater, Dartmouth College. Collaborating with industry giants like Under Armour, she has also coached various youth camps alongside WNBA stars such as Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Plum. An early adopter of 3x3 basketball in the US, Lakin guided the U23 3x3 USA Women’s National Team in the Nations League in 2022.
Before coaching, Lakin played professional basketball in France and studied at Durham University in the UK, where she got her MBA. As a student-athlete at Dartmouth College, she was a first-team all-Ivy League honoree, captain of the women's basketball team, and a 1,000-point scorer.
